Owl Bag

So, for Christmas a got a lovely Owl journal.

Unfortunately, it did not fit in any of my purses. So I made this one:

For this bag, you will need:
-5 m.m. crochet hook
-Your yarn stash
-some fabric
-a yarn needle

This pattern is pretty flexible, so if you have a journal that you want a bag for you can easily adjust it.

For my bag, I started by ch 38. This went a couple inches past the length of the book.
Row 1: ch in 2nd ch from hk, hdc across.
Row 2: ch 2, hdc across
Repeat row 2 for 38 rows changing colour occasionally. (a total of 38 rows)
For mine, I did the following:
2 rows yellow, 3 rows green, 1 row dark pink, 3 rows TARDIS blue, 2 rows silver, 2 rows russet, 1 row dark blue, 1 row light pink, 2 rows yellow, 5 rows green, 2 rows yellow, 1 row light pink, 1 row dark blue, 2 rows russet, 2 rows silver, 3 rows TARDIS blue, 1 row dark pink, 3 rows green, 2 rows yellow

Then fasten off, weave in ends. Fold in half and sew sides together. If you followed my pattern for changing colours, you will notice the colours match up.

Once I sewed up the sides I re-attached green to the top of the bag.
Rows 1-4: ch2, hdc across
Fasten off, weave in ends.

Now for the flap:
Make two granny squares using this granny square pattern.
Sew them together using an invisible seam. Then sew the pair to the bit of flap that you just added. (I hope this makes sense)
(Sorry the picture is so blurry)

For the beak:
Ch 7
Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hk. hdc across
Row 2: ch 1, sc2, sc2tog, sc2
Row 3: ch1, sc2, sc2tog, sc1
Row 4: ch1, sc2, sc2tog
Row 5: ch1, sc2tog, sc1
Row 6: sc2tog
Fasten off, sew between the eyes.

The Strap:
I made mine cross body.
I made a ch that went from my hip, around my neck, to my other hip. Keep in mind that your strap will stretch so make it a bit shorter then you want.
Row 1: hdc in 2nd ch from hk, hdc across
Row2-3: ch 2, hdc across
Row 4: ch1, sc across
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Sew to the bag on the seam following the red arrows.

The inside:
I started out without a lining, but then I worried that my bag might stretch too much and that items would fall between the stitches. So for the lining:
-cut a rectangle of fabric slightly bigger than your bag so that it can stretch a bit
-then sew it in half and hem the top
- do the blanket stitch around the top
- sew the lining to your bag just through the blanket stitches (again, leaving room for your bag to stretch a bit)

(It doesn't have a red bottom, that is just my fingerless gloves)

And there you go!! Your very own owl bag! I hope that you enjoy it! It is quite fun to make, and fun to use as well. 'Owl' see you later!

I was Born a Unicorn.

I made a unicorn for my friend Lynn. She loves unicorns.

This was very fun to make. I particularly enjoyed putting the hair on. I think it turned out very well.
If you want to make one too, here is the pattern I followed:
Have a happy January!

T.A.R.D.I.S. Hat, My First Tutorial

Hello fellow Whovians!
I made this hat for the Fiftieth anniversary episode that happened a few weeks ago.

It took me two tries to get this hat right. It was my first time making a pattern and I really enjoyed it. So here goes:

I used:
- a 5 mm hook
- worsted weight yarn in blue, black, and white
-yarn needle

Stitches used:
ch: chain
hdc: half double crochet
hdc2tog: half double crochet two together, or decrease
inc.: 2 hdc in one stitch
sl: slip stitch

The Pattern:
I started at the brim and worked to the top.
So, to start Chain 57 sts. Join first and last sts to make a large loop. Make sure you don't twist the chain.
Round 1+2: ch 2, hdc around, sl in ch2
Round 3: ch 2, *hdc 18, inc. repeat from * around, sl in ch2 (60 sts)
Round 4+5: (these are the window rows) ch2, hdc as follows: *4 blue, 3 white, 1 blue, 3 white, 1 blue, 3 white, 4 blue, 3 white, 1 blue, 3 white, 1 blue, 3 white, repeat from * around, sl in ch2 You will do the pattern twice each time around. It takes a while because you have to change colours so much, but it is worth it!) (60 sts)
Round 6: ch2, hdc around in blue, sl in ch2 (60sts)
Round 7+ 8: (these are the window rows) ch2, hdc as follows: *4 blue, 3 white, 1 blue, 3 white, 1 blue, 3 white, 4 blue, 3 white, 1 blue, 3 white, 1 blue, 3 white, repeat from * around, sl in ch2 (60 sts)
Round 9+ 10: ch2, hdc around in blue, sl in ch2
Round 11+12: ch2, hdc around in black, sl in ch2 (this is where you will write 'Police Box')
Round 13+14: ch2, hdc around in blue, sl in ch2
Decrease rows:
Round 15: ch2, *hdc 8, hdc2tog, repeat from star around, sl into ch2
Round 16: ch2, *hdc 7, hdc2tog, repeat from star around, sl into ch2
Round 17: ch2, *hdc 6, hdc2tog, repeat from star around, sl into ch2
Round 18: ch2, *hdc 5, hdc2tog, repeat from star around, sl into ch2
Round 19: ch2, *hdc 4, hdc2tog, repeat from star around, sl into ch2
Round 20: ch2, *hdc 3, hdc2tog, repeat from star around, sl into ch2
Round 21: ch2, *hdc 2, hdc2tog, repeat from star around, sl into ch2
Round 22-24: hdc2tog around
Fasten off, sew together and weave in ends.
Choose which side is the front and embroider 'Police Box' on the black strip.
For the pompom:
Hold your fingers apart and wrap yarn around all four fingers, loosely.

When it is thick enough, tie a piece of string tightly around the middle, right between your middle and ring fingers.

Then cut down the sides by your pointer finger and your pinky.

Attach to the top of your hat. This is the light.
And now you have your own TARDIS hat! Don't forget to make whooshing sounds when you are wearing it. :) If you have any questions about this pattern, feel free to comment. I would be happy to help you! Happy Holidays, enjoy the Christmas Special!

Little Totoro

Hello friends in blogger land!! The following is a little Totoro I made for my mom. If you ever saw the movie, then you know this is the one Mai chased to get to the big Totoro:
Isn't he cute? I almost put some acorns around him, but since it was the middle of winter, I couldn't find any.
If you want to make this little friend, you should check out the tutorial I followed:
I followed it almost exactly, but I did his belly in felt and I didn't add the arms.
Enjoy!

Little Dragon

I have been crocheting for a few years now, and I have just started making amigurumi. My first amigurumi was a little dragon for my sister.

It is made with a mixture of felt and crocheting techniques. I am really pleased with how it turned out.
If you like this sweet little dragon, then here is the pattern I followed:

Have a lovely day!
